Understanding Single Page vs. Multi-Step Forms
When you create a new form, it will default to a single-page format, meaning all your data collection Form Fields will appear on one longer form. This setup works well for shorter forms with fewer fields.
For longer forms, such as event registration forms with multiple sections, you can break the form into steps. This makes it visually less overwhelming for the giver or registrant and allows for easier navigation between sections. To split your form into steps, click the Split Form Into Steps button at the top right of your form.
How to Split a Form Into Steps
Follow the steps below to split a form into steps:
- Within the form, Click on "Split Form into Steps"
- The form will automatically be turned into steps
- On the left side, you'll notice the steps broken up. Please edit the name of the steps within the form
Example: Form Step 2 -> "Individual Registrants Info" - Once your form is broken up into steps and named, you can assign specific fields to each step using the field’s properties. Simply select a field and choose the appropriate step.
- You can also easily drag and drop fields from one step to another by clicking on the hot dog icon. If a payment field exists on the form, collecting payment details and payment confirmation will automatically have their own steps.
Continue building your form using Form Fields as usual. Make sure to double-check your Form Properties for accuracy.
Registrant Experience with Multi-Step Forms
Below is how the finished form will appear to your registrants:
- Registrants will not be able to move to the next step without completing the current step.
- Once a step is completed, registrants can navigate back to previous sections using the step timeline on the left for any necessary edits.
- If a payment is required, a running total will be displayed on the top right side of the screen for their convenience.
