One-Time Code Verification

This article explains what OTC Verification is, how it can benefit your organization, and how to enable/disable it.

What is One-Time Code Verification?

  • One-time code (OTC) verification requires that unverified, non-signed-in donors receive a code via email or text and enter it before submitting the donation.
    • To verify, a donor can sign in, go to the Account tab, and send the code to their email or phone number on file, then enter it on the screen. This process verifies them.
    • If a donor is signed in, they will not be required to enter the code
    • If a donor uses a verified email or phone number, they will not be required to enter the code
  • OTC verification can help protect against card testing and other bad actors

How can OTC Verification help us?

  • If you experience suspicious activity, such as card testing, consider enabling OTC Verification to deter bad actors.
  • OTC Verification can slow down or even stop bad actors from using your account
  • Because it affects real donors, too, we do not enable OTC Verification for you by default.
    • If we identify bad actors using your account, we may temporarily enable OTC Verification until the testing activity is over.

How to enable or disable OTC Verification

  • To enable OTC Verification, go to the cog gear, then click Settings
  • Click “Enable OTC Verification for Quick Gifts”
  • You’re all set! To disable, simply uncheck the box.
